Husain Taqi Abdul Ali Al lawati

Student: Husain Taqi Abdul Ali Al lawati
University: Monash University
Course: Bachelor of Engineering (electrical and computer system engineering)

Student profile:
I graduated from the creative private school and I’ve been awarded with a full scholarship from the ministry of higher education to study in Australia.
Now that I finished my studying journey, I can say that I learned many things during my time in Australia. Several examples would include adapting to different cultures, different ways of thinking, using time wisely and different ways to expand my knowledge.

I’ve been an admin member of the Omani students’ society for three years and I really had a wonderful and lovely experience being involved in Australian society. I recommend Omani students to come and study in Australia so they can benefit from the experience and then when they finish and return home they can start contributing to the development of our beloved country.

The 45th National Day of the Sultanate of Oman was celebrated on Friday 20th of November 2015 at lunchtime at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

Over 300 diplomats, government officials, business and education and community representatives turned out to celebrate the milestone of the 45th National Day. Upon arrival guests were greeted into the Ballroom by their host His Excellency the Consul-General, Dr Hamed Al-Alawi.

Guests were able to enjoy a large selection of traditional Omani sweets and delicacies imported from Oman. Many enjoyed being served the sweets by Omani’s dressed in their traditional outfits whilst viewing 12 framed beautiful photos that depicted the history, modern day and future of Oman. The Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra played in the background and guests also had the opportunity to view new documentaries on Oman on the large screens.

The Consul General addressed the audience focusing on theme of the evening which was where Oman has come from, where it is today and where it is heading in the future. The most important aspect of the address was building bridges of cooperation in all aspects of the strengthening relationship shared between Oman and Australia.

An enjoyable evening was had by all in celebrating Oman’s National Day and guests were able to take home an information pack enticing them to visit Oman.

Course Name (Specialization): Intercalated Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc [Hon]) – Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB)

Student Profile
‘Life is unpredictable’ for I never thought I will end up studying in New Zealand for 8 years!

I finished my high school studies at the Sultan’s School being the top student in Oman among the bilingual private schools. I wanted to study abroad and funny enough, New Zealand was not in my radar at all. Then I received a full scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, stating ‘Medicine in New Zealand.’ Ever since, I thought I made one of the best decisions of my life.

New Zealand is a beautiful country with very humble people. I think my biggest achievements in NZ were shaping my personality and becoming independent.

Now as a trainee doctor (final year of medicine), I reflect back on my journey. I obtained a first class honors for my BMedSc (Hon) and I am one of the top students among my class in medicine, alhamdulillah. I received numerous awards, the last award being the ‘Hematology Prize’ awarded for the highest achievement and aptitude in hematology.

I recently had the chance to spend three months of my medical course in Australia and the USA training at two very renowned eye hospitals. My hope is to become an eye surgeon one day, although the road ahead is still very long.

Besides medicine, I love being involved with the Omani societies. I chaired the Otago University Omani Association in 2007-2008 and the Omani Student Society of New Zealand in 2009.
