His Majesty grants Order of Honour to Omani sailor-His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has granted the Order of Honour to Omani sailor Mohsin bin Ali al Busaidy in appreciation of his historic seafaring accomplishment.

Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court, presented the Order at a ceremony held at the Diplomatic Club yesterday. Mohsin travelled around the world in 76 days in a sailing boat, a great feat accomplished by no other Arab sailor.

The minister said His Majesty granted the Order in appreciation of his achievement and as an incentive to others to achieve similar feats in various other fields. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, said the felicitation was a special occasion as the ceremony was arranged on His Majesty’s directives to honour the Omani sailor and celebrate his achievement. He said history has attested time and again to the strong bond between the Omani people and the sea. “Seafaring has been their mode of life.

It allowed them to travel to all places; interacting with the peoples of the world and contributing to human civilization. Our forefathers managed to reach Africa and China in ancient times and also travelled to the American continent. We feel proud of the Omani youth who managed to keep that heritage alive under the prosperous reign of His Majesty the Sultan.” The ceremony was attended by ministers, under-secretaries and Arab and foreign ambassadors. — ONA
