On His Majesty’s directives - Sultan Qaboos Academy for Sports Capacities Development to be set up
Oman Daily Observer 24/6/2009
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has issued Royal orders to initiate undertaking a consultancy study for the construction of Sultan Qaboos Academy for Sports Capacities Development. This was announced by Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Sports Affairs. Once it has received the Royal orders, the ministry has contacted a number of international firms and establishments specialised in the consultancy studies preparation.
Four of the firms have submitted their bids. After comparing the companies’ bids during the past six months, it has been found plausible to enter into contract with a Canadian establishment, the minister added. Al Sunaidy explained that the signing formalities of the contract with the Canadian establishment is in its final stages and the agreement will be signed within 10 days.
The study will cover trainees’ relation with the academy, adjusting their study at educational institutions and their training at the academy, the location of the academy and its size in the first stage. The Canadian institution will dispatch its officials to meet officials of various sports associations and clubs and government and private institutions concerned in the Sultanate, he added.
The minister valued the great attention accorded by His Majesty the Sultan to the sports sector. The construction of the academy comes within the context of continuous care of His Majesty to developing human resources in general and sports potential in particular, the minister noted. “The generous follow-up by His Majesty the Sultan, the Chief Guardian of Youths, calls for doubled efforts to prepare sports persons and make them capable of representing the Sultanate at high standards in international arenas”, Al Sunaidy added. The study will focus on sports that will qualify Omani youths for regional and international competitions for individuals and groups
